What is Tesla Autopilot?

Tesla describes their Autopilot as “an advanced driver assistance system that enhances safety and convenience behind the wheel.” The system uses 8 external cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and an onboard computer. Some of the features included with Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Capability (which is the premium of the two Autopilot packages Tesla offers) are Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, Autosteer, Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Summon, and Smart Summon.

The Future of Autopilot

By the end of this year, Tesla is planning to roll out features that allow the Autopilot to recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop signs and automatic driving on city streets. Tesla vehicles can be upgraded/updated through software updates; any future self-driving technology that comes out can easily be implemented into all Tesla vehicles.
